I had the true pleasure to write an essay for Francesco Pennacchio’s beautiful photobook, Unlike Flowers. Published by Artphilein Editions, the book is a long-term photographic investigation into grief, memory, and the fragile mechanisms through which presence can persist beyond absence. Francesco will be exhibiting the project at Bar Bachibouzouk, Rue du Jardin 12, Vevey during this year’s Biennial Images Vevey as well as at FOCUS, the exhibition space of the De Pietri Artphilein Foundation in Lugano Paradiso, from September 3th to October 30th.
Making A Start, out now from Scarlet Tiger Press
Scarlet Tiger Press, a small press publisher based out of Devon, just released, Making a Start: 17 Artists & Makers on Creative Beginnings in the Age of Environmental Uncertainty. I contributed a pair of images from my studio and wrote a text on starting new projects. The book asks: how do you begin new creative work in the age of climate crisis? What is the value of making by hand, when the future feels uncertain?
